IL GRAN GIGANTE DELLE ALPI GIULIE.

Il Lussarissimo è una gara molto particolare e unica nel suo genere. Uno slalom parallelo di lungo percorso da intraprendere con un amico /avversario su una pista meravigliosa ma lunghissima, che necessita di una buona preparazione fisica e di una buona conoscenza delle proprie capacità e dei propri limiti.

Arrivare in fondo è già un traguardo di cui essere fieri. Sta ad ogni partecipante decidere quale altro obiettivo prefiggersi, sia esso di battere il proprio avversario diretto, ottenere un buon piazzamento o puntare alle prime posizioni di classifica.

Nell’organizzare ed ideare la gara abbiamo voluto andar oltre quanto è stato fatto negli altri Gigantissimi e, con il coinvolgimento e l’aiuto di molte persone ed enti, senza i quali la manifestazione sicuramente non avrebbe avuto luogo, abbiamo studiato una formula innovativa che ha suscitato molto entusiasmo.

Come tutte le grandi idee, non è stato facile metterla in opera, ma siamo rimasti così colpiti, oltre che dalle risposte degli sponsor, anche e soprattutto dall’entusiasmo e dalla voglia di partecipare ed aiutare da parte di molte persone, specie nel tarvisiano, che siamo riusciti ad arrivare fino in fondo.

Nel processo abbiamo imparato molte cose, la prima è che una gara simile la volevano in molti e già in molti ci avevano pensato. Durante le riunioni per l’organizzazione sono spuntate vecchie cartelline con bozze, purtroppo incompiute, di simili manifestazioni. Ma gare di questo genere fanno parte della storia del Lussari, una pista che ha affascinato molti.

La prima gara ufficiale ebbe luogo nel 1942 e fu una discesa libera vinta da Zeno Colò con il tempo di 4 minuti e 23 secondi. Discesa libera per modo di dire, perché si scendeva per una strada forestale o, più spesso, in mezzo al bosco per arrivare prima all’arrivo e non c’è paragone rispetto alle odierne discese libere su piste perfettamente lisce e preparate. Nel dopoguerra, sulla stessa pista si sfidarono altri nomi illustri quali Alverà, Lacedelli, Marcellin e Besson.

Negli anni ’70 la pista subì le prime trasformazioni e fu introdotta la Staffetta Alpina del Monte Lussari che consisteva in: una gara di fondo di 8 km; la salita al Monte Lussari; una discesa libera a porte controllate (simile ad un moderno Super G). Nel 1978 vinse la staffetta il gruppo C.S. Forestale, e la mirabolante discesa di Marco Pufitsch (detto il Mork) che impiegò soltanto 2 minuti e 59 secondi per scendere a valle segnò il record della vecchia pista.

Le cose sono un po’ cambiate oggi con una pista sempre perfettamente preparata e di larghezza media sopra i 60 metri, dove i vincitori delle attuali discese libere di coppa Europa impiegano meno di 2 minuti a scendere.

Lo Sci Cai XXX Ottobre ed il Comune di Tarvisio sono onorati di essere in grado di presentare, dopo il successo della manifestazione inaugurale, la seconda edizione di questa manifestazione.

Ci sono decine di persone ed enti che ai quali va il merito della riuscita di questa manifestazione e gli organizzatori intendono ringraziare tutti per il contributo dato.

Quindi onore allo Sci Cai XXX Ottobre e al Comune di Tarvisio per aver co-organizzato la manifestazione, ma onore soprattutto a tutti quelli che hanno creduto in questa manifestazione ed hanno collaborato in modo determinante.

Lussarissimo - Story

THE BIG GIANT SLALOM OF GIULIE ALPS.

Is a particular and unique type of race. An endurance parallel giant slalom where we can challenge a friend on a beautiful but extremely long course, requiring a good physical training and a good knowledge of our own possibilities and limits.

To complete the race is already a goal to be proud of. Each participant can then decide which other goal to set for himself, be it to win the direct challenge, a good result in the overall standing, or to aim for the first positions of the race.

In organizing the race, we wanted to go beyond a regular endurance race or Gigantissimo and, with the help of many, we studied an innovative formula that generated great enthusiasm.

As it often happens for many good projects, it has been 5% inspiration and 95% perspiration, meaning that it has been a very difficult challenge. We have been pleasantly surprised, though, by the response of the sponsors and especially by the enthusiasm and willingness to be part of the organization demonstrated by all the people we contacted. This enthusiasm has been the fuel that helped us to complete the project.

In the process we have learned a lot, for example that a similar race has been a dream for many people. Old files appeared during the meetings, with drafts, unrealised, of similar races. But races of all kinds are part of the history of the Lussari, a ski slope that has a special appeal.

The first official race took place in 1942 and was a downhill won by Zeno Colò in 4 minutes and 23 seconds. Not a real downhill the way we know it, because at that time there was only an old road and often the skiers would cut though the woods to reach the finish line. After the war, on the same race course, other important names challenged each other, names like Alverà, Lacedelli, Martellin and Besson.

In the 70’s the trail had its first widening and modifications and a new race The “Staffetta Alpina” was introduced. It consisted of a cross country race of 8 km, a climb to the top of the Lussari and a sort of SuperG to reach the finish line. In 1978 the C.S. Forestale won the race, and the incredible run by Marco Pufitsch (called the Mork), who reached the finish line in only 2 minutes and 59 seconds marked the record of the course. Things are a little different today, with the course perfectly smooth and 60 meters wide (on average), with racers completing the course in less than 2 minutes.

The Sci Cai 30 Ottobre and the Town of Tarvisio are honoured to jointly present the second editino, after the success of the inaugural event. As always we will try our best, and at the end of the event we will sum it up, listen to your comments and suggestions, and will try to further improve the next editino of the event.

There are dozens of people and institutions that share the merit for this success and we express the gratitude for their contribution. So honour to the Sci Cai 30 Ottobre and to The Township of Tarvisio for jointly organizing the event, but honour especially to all the ones who believed with us in the event and collaborated with us.
